Here is your Friday, in order.

DoorsTen o'clock

Somebody puts a free emo gift in your hand, you look up, and the whole room is people who never quite let it go either. You relax about four seconds after walking in.

The room filling up under blue stage lights, drinks in hands, the night about to start

Third song inThe pretending stops

Two DJs up on the stage, not hiding behind a laptop, on the mic, screaming it back at you and throwing merch into the crowd.

Both DJs at the booth with the whole room lit up behind them

The photo boothHalf eleven

There is a queue for the Myspace photo booth, because somebody built your old profile page out of actual cardboard. You will be in that queue. You know you will.

The pitAround midnight

Somebody opens one for Misery Business and every single person in it is grinning like an idiot. You go in. Obviously you go in.

A man in a cap mid scream with his horns up, the crowd going around him

Black ParadeThe one everybody came for

Those opening piano notes land, the whole room goes at once, arms up, every word, and for about four minutes nobody in that building has a job, a mortgage, or a single thing to be embarrassed about.

The whole room with arms up, the full floor going at once

Home timeTwo in the morning

No voice left, a photo strip in your coat pocket, and the best hangover you have had in years. You will be telling people about it on Monday.

Three mates close together under the flash, horns up, near the end of the night

You're not the only one who never let it go.

A man mid shout with his hand on his chest, knowing every word
Every word, hand on heart

That is the bit nobody tells you. You think you are the last person alive still playing this stuff in the car with the windows up, like it is a thing you got away with.

Then you walk into a room full of people doing exactly the same thing, and something in your chest goes quiet. That is the whole night, really. The rest is just songs.

“I'm too old for this.”

You are the exact age this is built for.

Everybody in that room got told to grow out of it. Everybody in that room is about to spend four hours proving they did not. Nobody is checking your birth certificate. They are checking whether you know the second verse.

“Is it just some bloke playing songs?”

Two DJs, on the stage, on the mic, all night.

Not tucked away in a booth. Up where you can see them, going hoarse right alongside you and throwing merch into the crowd. You have been to the other kind. This is not that.

Nobody does this on their own.

You already thought of someone. The one who would properly get it. Odds are they are thinking about it too, and neither of you has said it out loud yet.

So say it. Because on Sunday somebody is going to send somebody a video of that room going up for Black Parade, and you want to be in the video, not watching it on your sofa.

Things you were going to ask.

Is there really a free gift?

Yes. One in your hand on the way in while they last, we give away t-shirts every night, and the Myspace photo booth open all night.

What actually gets played?

Pure bangers, nothing else. Black Parade, Sugar We're Going Down, Misery Business, I Write Sins, Dear Maria, Helena, and everything either side of them. 2003 to 2012, start to finish, no filler hour.

Coming on my own?

Loads do, every single night. By the second song you are arm in arm with a stranger screaming Helena at the ceiling. Come down the front and find us.

What do I wear?

Eyeliner on. Whatever 2008 you would have worn, or whatever you already have on. Nobody in there is judging, they are all in the same boat.

What time, and how old?

Doors at 10pm at Church - Temple Of Fun, Sheffield. Come early, the free gifts go first. 18 plus, bring ID, they will ask.

Can I just pay on the door?

You can, but it costs more, and only if there is still room when you get to the front. Buying now is the only way to know for certain you are getting in.

Is paying safe?

Yes. You pay on Skiddle, a UK ticketing platform that has been doing this for twenty years. Your card details never touch this page.
